Restart This Sunday

go sign

Thank you all for your patience the last few weeks as we took break to join the Just Walk Across the Room discussions than broke for Thanksgiving. We will be starting back up this Sunday in room 225. This is the sex week looking at chapter 11 from Sacred Marriage. You will have to believe me that I have not been trying to skip this week and avoid the potential embarrassing discussions. To tell you the truth, I think this will be a great discussion for the class.

If you are the one nervous, please remember that Allison and I hold to a "Private Kingdom" stance within marriage, which means that there are some things that only you and your spouse know. The bedroom is one of those things. Sunday's discussion would be more on what God is trying to tell us through sex and how that applies to our relationship with Him.

Allison and I look forward to seeing everyone this Sunday. Please come as we also have some class administration things to talk about for during and after the holidays.

No Class This Sunday

stop sign image

In case you did not get Allison's email, we will not have class this week. We were not planning on meeting the week of Thanksgiving and after a month of not meeting, we felt it would be better to have the remaining classes on consecutive weeks. This means that the next class will be December 6th.

We miss you all and hope you are doing well. See you in a couple more weeks.

Schedule Changes

There was a mistake on last Sunday’s reading for this week. We will read chapter nine for this coming Sunday. For those following closely, this does skip chapter eight. You are welcome to read it, but we will not be discussing it. Now, I made you want to read it to see what you are missing. :)

Also, for those who were not there. We will be participating in the church’s request to go through Bill Hybel’s Just Walk Across the Room. We will join with the Reavis’ group in room 227 (see map) from Oct. 25 through Nov. 11. It may be weird taking a break from our Sacred Marriage in mid-stream, but it will give us opportunities to meet other members of Reynolda. Karan Reavis will lead the discussion after the video, and let’s hope we can get her to start talking about something she is passionate about. It will be fun!

For those who have signed up to bring snacks over those weeks, you can just get with the Connelley’s if you would like to reschedule. We will not have snacks during those weeks.

For this breakout group, we will watch a short video about the topic and then have a discussion. Gwladys will provide the discussion questions to our class next week that we will go through in the class. The church does have the book, which the video series is based, available if you want to purchase. It is $10 and they are located in the Chapel.

I believe this covers everything. Let Allison or I know if there are any questions.

Class Schedule Changes

It was great to see everyone again and be back in room 225 with the couches and the outdoor view. We also need to thank Gwladys and Reynolda for providing the Krispy Kreme.

Two major administration decisions came from yesterday:
  1. We will keep meeting every week.
  2. Class will now meet from 11:00 - 12:15.

Other than that, we shared stories of our summer and introduced the Sacred Marriage book. We will be studying chapters 1 and 2 next week focusing on the topic: Finding God in Marriage.

Class Starts This Sunday

down the drain image Where did the summer go? Preschool has started back; school buses crowd the rode. Time to start back the Parents of Preschool class. We will meet this Sunday at 10:30 in room 225.

I had felt bad making people have homework for the first class, so I am rescinding this. This coming week we will just catch up on the summer, eat some snacks, and set the agenda for the coming fall. We are still going to go through Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas, so go ahead and get the book if you have not yet. We will not have extras available to bring to the class this time around.

We look forward to having everyone together again!

Back to Room 225

Church out window pictureThis coming Sunday we will start back the Parents of Preschoolers class. For the fall we have been moved back to room 225: the comfy life style. For those that started with us in the spring, you missed the scenic views and the comfy couches, but it all has been given back. As with the church blessing of the year, we have been restored our fortunes. :) Look forward to seeing everyone again this Sunday.

Quick Small Group Announcements

Hi, POPS. I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying this great weather. Rachel has been sick with a flu like illness the last couple of days, so we're only halfway enjoying it. I am leaving for Wisconsin on Friday and would appreciate prayers for the flu like illness staying away from me so I can go up, just if you think about it. And of course you can pray for Kevin as he is here with the kids by himself. Thanks!

Announcement 1: Kevin and I are wanting to compile brief testimonies from most of you if you would like to participate that would be given to all the nursery teachers, Emilie, and Jennifer. What we're looking for is a few sentences or a paragraph sharing what you have learned or how you've grown by being able to attend a small group on Sunday morning. Without our nursery workers, we wouldn't be able to meet, so we want to encourage them by allowing them to hear of the fruit that is being born out of attending a small group. To be able to keep all of our kids an extra 1.5 hours each week means extra workers most weeks, so we just wanted to help them all know that what they are doing and the time they invest with our kids is reaping benefits they don't know about. So just email your testimony to Kevin by Wednesday March 25. Then we'll take care of the rest. Thanks!

Announcement 2: This will be the last week we would like to gather the small group surveys. So if you have one you'd like to turn in, bring it or email it to Kevin by this Sunday.

Announcement 3: We mentioned on Sunday that we are going to start up with Care Groups soon. So we need you to be praying about whether God may be leading you to be a Care Group leader. We'll probably need 3 or 4 couples to start off with. This would entail having 2 families that you cared for. Some examples of what a leader may do is:
  • If someone hasn't come in a couple of weeks, emailing them to make sure they are okay or if they need anything (like if a child's been sick you could run an errand for them if needed or something)
  • Arranging a monthly social for the 3 families. Since our group is kind of big now, we'd like for the 3 families to meet monthly, and this would take the place of the monthly small group social. (We may periodically still get together with all of us, but it will not be often.) You could eat out, play at a playground, whatever your group wants to do. But that will be a good way to get to know some people outside of class. Also it would be great if once in a while you got together without kids so you can actually talk a little better or see a movie, play a game, etc.
  • As other needs come up with people, just being aware of what they are and loving on your group members. It doesn't need to take a lot of time, but it can make a big impact.
  • So again, email Kevin or me if you feel led to lead in this capacity. We'd like to set the care groups up in the next few weeks.
We love you guys and look forward to God continuing to grow our group in Him. Blessings!

Allison

Room Assignment Change

As Alli said in the email... "with new babies being born, there are also new couples being "born" into our class." Well, I have updated the map to show the change. We will be in room 210 starting this Sunday.

We Have Rules?

Guideline Enforcer

Actually, we are just calling them class dynamics. These are in place to help you know what to expect from us, like where we are coming from. There are a couple things we expect from the class as well, but they are only to promote openness and freedom to ask questions.

Authority of Scripture

  • Everything written in the Scriptures is true and is exactly what God wants us to know.

Relational God

  • God is loving and desires a living, ongoing relationship with each of us.
  • The only way to have a relationship with God is through Jesus Christ.

Circle of Trust

  • What is shared in the group stays in the group.
  • We will not demean others with our words or actions.

Points of Courtesy

  • While we encourage the sharing of personal prayer requests, please do not use it as a vehicle to gossip about other people. Please focus on immediate family.
  • We want this to be an open group where people feel welcome. Therefore, since we will naturally gravitate to a group of friends, please continue to include others.
  • We will end at 12:00, for those who need to get kids home for naps. Everyone is welcome to mingle afterwards as nursery will be provided until church ends at 12:30.

Room 225

Here are a couple pictures of room 225. Furniture has been added to the room which makes it nice. More than likely this will be changed out or have more added unless we are to make people sit on the floor. I thought these pictures would be interesting a couple of weeks from now as the final room comes together.

Allison and I will be making calls this week to remind people that we will be starting up in two weeks. We are looking forward to meeting each of you and diving into what God has for us.

Room Assignment

We have been given a room in the new classrooms. We are in room 225. If you had a time to visit in the open house you would have seen our great view of the chapel. We are looking forward to start in three weeks.
